The inspiration for this design came from our visit to Aptera, an ancient city ruin in Crete. Aptera means without wings. In Greek mythology is it said Artemis ruled the ancient city and fed up with the muses and sirens arguing over their singing capabilities, Artemis ordered a singing contest between the two. The muses won and the sirens were banished from the city and lost their wings. Although there was also strong Athena and owl vibes coming through while weaving too!
